Joey Foster took his first HarrierZeuros UK Formula Ford Championship win at Snetterton this evening in round 14 of the series, the Cornishman winning a truncated race which was halted early after a number of incidents. Ben Clucas took second with Scholarship Class winner Jay Howard claiming third overall. Valle Makela took the chequered flag first at the end of the race, but the Finn, winner of round 13 earlier in the day, was excluded from the results after the race for a driving infringement.
Makela led away from pole at the start, under early pressure from championship leader Tom Kimber-Smith. Into the Esses at the end of the long back straight for the second time Kimber-Smith looked inside Makela for the lead, only to lose out to the late braking Foster and drop to third.
These three then opened a slight gap to the chasing group ? headed by Alx Danielsson ? before the first Safety Car period was triggered when Dan Clarke went off in his Comtec Racing car at the first corner. Clarke was unhurt, but the incident, and others on the circuit, took four laps to clear.
When racing resumed, Kimber-Smith lost ground on the first lap, Clucas taking his Jamun Racing Mygale into third. Another first corner incident again brought out the Safety Car, and officials finally stopped the race after 12 laps, the result being taken at the end of lap 11. Though second over the line, Foster was awarded the win after the race.
?Ill take a win anyway it comes,? said Continental Racings Foster. ?Hopefully it will be the first of many. If the race had continued I'm sure I would have been able to get past Makela anyway.?
?I always want to win, but it's been good to be back on the podium this weekend,? said Clucas. ?It's a boost for us and we are back on the pace.?
Howard won the Scholarship Class again for Team MDR, and was closing on the leaders when the race was stopped.
?It was a good race,? said Howard. ?I was confident I could have got right up there if the race had continued, I passed three or four cars at one point, it's a shame there werent more laps. Im happy with two wins, and scored good points.?
