Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, August 27, 2005 ? Joey Foster (#3 Bradfords
BRDC Keenpine Cape Motorsports) has won his second victory of the year on a
drying race track at Mid-Ohio. Starting in the pole position Foster led
the entire race and was able to hold off a charging Jay Howard (#22
newhoneys.com Aiken Racing). "I would like to thank the team at Cape
Motorsports and the BRDC, Bradfords, Woodpecker Pine and Keen Pine for
all their help as well as Cooper Tires."
Finishing second, Howard was 1.630 seconds behind his fellow countryman. From England , both drivers have battled for most of the season to finish each race in the winning position. Starting in the fifth position Howard was able to pass the fourth and third place cars on the second lap. Ahead of him was Matt McDonough who finished in third place in his #19 TASC Technical Services car. This was McDonough? third 3 rd place finish at Mid-Ohio this season after finishing third in both races here earlier this season.
Catching up to McDonough on the third lap, Howard was able to overtake him coming out of the keyhole corner going down the hill. Ahead of him lay a huge gap to the race leader, Joey Foster. After the race Foster said, "my rear tires started to go away" and as a result Howard was able to close the gap to only 1.630 seconds.
McDonough, who competes in the masters class, battled with Chris Guerrieri (#11Northstar Promotions Cherry Beach Sound Med Broadcast) who had started in 7 th position. "We have been having electrical problems this weekend", said McDonough. I was trying to follow Howard only to find Guerrieri rapidly catching up. "I think it might be an alternator problem and we?ll need to fix it for Sundays race."
Finishing first in the Gold Cup series was Ricardo Vassmer (#25 UltraLub) who was over a minute faster than his nearest class competitor. Ricardo Vassmer is the points leader in the Gold Cup Series.
