Foster flies in F3 test

07.10.2004 by AltoSport

news image Joey stunned F3 Scholarship team Performance Racing when he tested their ex Stephen Jelley car at Donington Park on Thursday.

Joey was on the pace within a handful of laps and was soon lapping the National track a second quicker than the car had gone before, despite not using new tyres. In the afternoon the car was fitted with a set of "fresh-ish" and Joey was asked to treat the next ten laps as a qualifying session. Although hampered on his first run by a red flag, he lapped in 1m 3.1s over 1.5s faster than the Scholarship pole time from the Donington race. Moreover, the time would have put him in fifth overall, just 0.2s away from Nelson Piquet's Class a pole time.

Delighted team owner Bobby Issazahade commented "Joey's run in that last session still wasn't his ultimate pace: he made a small mistake and let's face it, the car and engine are not the freshest after a seasons racing. We are very impressed and dearly hope that we can work together in F3 in 2005".
